Description: There are now a total of 67 territorial authorities in New Zealand. Thisupdated total reflects the amalgamation of the seven territorialauthorities (Rodney District, North Shore City, Waitakere City, AucklandCity, Manukau City, Papakura District and Franklin District) into onenew Auckland Council in 2010.Territorial authorities are the second tier of local government in NewZealand, below regional councils. The 67 territorial authoritiescomprise: 12 city councils, 53 district councils, the Auckland Counciland the Chatham Islands Territory. Six territorial authorities (AucklandCouncil, Nelson City Council, Gisborne , Tasman , and MarlboroughDistrict Councils) also perform the functions of a regional council andthus are known as unitary authorities. Chatham Islands Territoryundertakes only some of the functions of a regional council, and istherefore not a unitary authority. Territorial authority districts are notsubdivisions of regions, and some of them fall within more than oneregion. Taupo District has the distinction of straddling the boundariesof four different regions. Territorial authorities are based oncommunities of interest and road access and administer local roadingand reserves, sewerage, building consents, the land use and subdivisionaspects of resource management, and other local matters.

Description: Within Wellington City, individual and groups of trees are identified and protected for their significant historic heritage, ecological or amenity values. These trees may be notable as prominent natural features and landmarks, contributors to local identity, spectacular or rare specimens, or associated with special sites, events or people. It is important that these trees are identified, protected and cared for so that they can be enjoyed by future generations. Notable trees can be either indigenous or exotic species and located on either public land (such as road reserves or parks) or on private property. For a tree to be notable it must be evaluated against the ‘Standard Tree Evaluation Method’ (STEM) and score 110 points or higher or have significant cultural and historical value, taking into account potential STEM scores. Notable trees are different to Urban Allotment Trees which are trees that are part of Significant Natural Areas (SNAs) in urban neighbourhoods.

The District Plan has categorised all sites for the purposes of managing the effects of different activities on these sites. Category A sites include Wāhi Tapu, Wāhi Tīpuna, Wāhi Kainga, Wāhi Mahinga Kai sites and areas that have high level of significance. Category B sites include Wāhi Taonga, Wāhi Tawhito, Nga Ara Tawhito, Nga Ara Pakanga sites and areas that are significant for Mana Whenua, however they may not match the level of significance to the sites and areas listed in Category A. In addition to this categorisation above, while some sites are historical sites, others are living spaces and contemporary sites that require treatment based on the current use and development of ‘here and now’.

Description: The Valuation_Property dataset is created byusingthe latest monthly parcel layer from LINZ and then joiningrating valuation data from the AO515 table to each parcelvia the parcel ID. Then, all parcels that have identical rating data are “dissolved” to show the whole rating unit. For example, this means that if a house is partly on two different parcels and maybe there is one record of title for the two parcels, then there will be only one rating unit that covers both parcels. The 2 parcels are dissolved so they display as a single polygon There will be some gaps because newly created parcels will not be rated until the start of the next financial year ( 1 July ). Some Valuation Properties may contain many flats or units. In these cases, it is not practical to display information about all the units/flats, so only a ‘parent’ record is displayed. The parent record contains “ZAPCS” in the “locgovcode” field. Each unit or flat on a single valuation property, will have a different valuation suffix number but they will all share the same valuation roll and assessment (shows as assess) number. Each part is regarded as a ‘child’ record of the ‘parent” that is represented by the ZAPCS record. It is important to recognise that the many flats/units on a single parent record, may have different uses. For example, some could be commercial and some residential, etc. For more information please contact the Land Customer Property Information team.
